Air layering is a method of propagating new trees and shrubs from stems or branches still attached to the parent plant. The stem or branch is wrapped with damp moss to encourage roots to form. Once a root ball is formed, the branch can be removed and you have a new starter tree.
In this project members will select a branch to work on and they will get hands on experience learning how to air layer. We will propagate branches to grow starter trees as our contribution to the holiday auction.
We will also learn how to propagate Canna Lily plants from harvesting seeds to splitting rhizomes. We will plant flowers and vegetables from seeds that you can take home. We will plant a flower bed from bulbs.
A Project Leader will contact you with event locations, dates and times. If you do not hear from your project leader and your youth membership has been approved by county, please contact Redwood 4-H Enrollment Coordinator at 4hredwoodenrollment @ gmail.com (remove spaces around @ ).
