The 4-H Cake Booth at the Alameda County Fair is the MAIN FUNDRAISER for Alameda County 4-H! Plus, each club that participates earns a rebate back to their club and volunteers get a parking pass and admission ticket to the fair. Funds raised through the Cake Booth help to pay for countywide events such as Skate Night, our Achievement Ceremony and Awards, Presentation Day, Field Days, Summer Camp, Conference Reimbursements and much, much more!
RULES APPLY TO MEMBERS AND ADULTS
Dress Code:
All members and adults must have a clean appearance.
No sleeveless shirts or tank tops.
Long pants and CLOSED TOE SHOES are required for safety.
Shorts and skirts are NOT acceptable. (It is a safety risk if hot coffee or tea is spilled on you, or a metal kitchen utencil is dropped that could cut you. Bring pants and change in bathroom before and after shift if weather is hot.)
Hair MUST be restrained by hats or hair nets. (long hair must be tied back/in braids/ponytail before entering booth due to health codes. Hair can be fixed in bathroom not in booth due to health codes.)
4-H members are encouraged to wear the 4-H uniform (white shirt/blouse & pants, 4-H scarf/tie), including the hat.
Wearing a club T-shirt is OK, as are jeans in place of white pants.
No sandals, flip-flops, or open toed shoes allowed. It is a safety risk and should not be worn in the Cake Booth.
No texting/cell phone use while working in the Cake Booth.
If working with livestock prior to shift, please have a clean change of pants & shoes for working (we need to keep the kitchen sanitary).
One leader/adult will be expected to assist with money counting at the beginning and END of each club shift.
The first shift of each day will need to help frost cakes and open the booth (shift begins at 11:30, fair opens at 12:00 noon)
The last shift will need to clean up the booth and restock supplies before leaving (the booth closes at 10:00 pm, so cake cutting should stop at 9:30pm, at which time cleaning should begin in earnest so that there is not too much left to clean after 10:00) [Our July 4 shift ends at 7:45pm, cake cutting should stop at 7:15pm]
We need at least 3 Adult/Parent Volunteers and 4-5 youth members per shift. That way, if an adult needs to take a break, there will still be the required two adult supervisors. Each youth member should be able to cycle through the various stations that might be available during their shift (frosting cakes, filling drinks, cleaning tables and dishes, stocking supplies, etc.). Only one supervised teen (or oldest youth member) should be working the cash register, others can learn when less busy, but oldest should cover the duration of the shift.
Fair passes should be available by the week before the fair. If there are any paper passes, those will be handed out during the mandatory livestock exhibitor meeting on Wednesday, June 11th (I'll ask for a volunteer to pick up if that's the plan). If digital passes, I will email them to the email address you provide in this RSVP.
Please watch the training video below (this was made during COVID, I will confirm if mask policy is still in place). The first 10 minutes of your shift is learning the operations in person and the last 10 min is training the next shift.
Please sign up for shifts between 11:30am-8pm on Friday, July 4th. If we fill these slots and members want to sign up for additional slots, we may be able to get the booth again on Fri Jun 27, Sat Jun 28, or Sun Jun 29, email Megan if interested.
