Canning Project

Food Preservation: Canning Project

Canning jam is a process that preservers jam by sealing it in jars to protect it from bacteria and mold, and make it shelf-stable. This allows jame to be stored for longer than it would if kept in the refriderator, can can be a good option if you make a lot of jam or want to save it for a later use.

Members will learn about food safety and how to can fig jam. We will make jars of fig jam to contribute to our holiday auction and will have some to take home. We will research recipies and in our second workshop we will work on making your own jam to take home and to enter into the Alameda County Fair.
